Abstract

The aim of this study was to isolate and identify secondary metabolites from the ethyl acetate extract of dalu-dalu (Salix tetrasperma Roxb.) leaves. Isolation of secondary metabolites was carried out by maceration method and continued to column chromatography which was then identified by UV-Visible and FT-IR spectroscopy. The results of the phytochemical test showed that dalu-dalu leaves were positive for containing compounds that classified into the class of flavonoids, phenolics, terpenoids, steroids, and saponins. The yellow solid of the isolated compound has a melting point of 261-2620C. The test results for the isolated compound showed one yellow stain on the TLC plate with UV 365 nm and concentrated H2SO4. UV-Vis spectroscopy showed the absorption band at λmax 209 nm, 268 nm (benzoyl) and λmax 342 nm (cinamoil) which is a typical spectrum for flavonoid compounds. The IR spectrum of the isolated compound shows the absorption of the aromatic C=C, the carbonyl C=O, the aliphatic C-H, and the hydroxyl functional groups. The characterizations clearly mentioned that the isolated compound is a flavonoid compound substituted for the OH group.
