Abstract

Heat exchanger is a heat transfer device used to transfer heat between two or more fluids available at different temperatures. The heat exchanger used is a Plate Heat Exchanger type. Plate Heat Exchangers are classified into two types, namely Unidirectional and Countercurrent. This research was conducted at PT. ABC to determine the heat transfer rate to reduce the temperature of the Water Chiller and the Effectiveness Value of the Plate Heat Exchanger. The Plate Heat Exchanger aims to cool the Water Chiller (Hot) flow originating from the Chillroll Unit and will be distributed to the SLI-Belt Flaker Unit and the Water Chiller (Cold) originating from the Chiller unit with a ratio of 24% Water and 76% Ethylene Glycol. to get the desired temperature and the results of the flow will be distributed to the Cooling Water Tank unit. Water Chiller is used to cool products in the Chill Roll Unit and SLI-Belt Flaker Unit. There are two data collection methods, Primary data collection is used to collect the required data, with the main variables observed including the chiller fluid input and output temperature, Water Chiller Fluid Flow rate from the Plate Heat Exchanger and Secondary data collection for Plate Heat Exchanger specifications. The calculation results show that the heat transfer rate with the Water chiller fluid flow is 3,782595 kJ/kg. K and the effectiveness value of the Plate Heat Exchanger is 53,33%.
